Information

Sri Aurobindo's maternal great-grandfather, Raj Narayan Bose's father. He leant English in Rammohan's school. He did not have a good pronunciation, but he wrote property articles and letters in correct English. Worked as a clerk at British East India Company. Was attracted by teaching of Rammohan Roi, become a member of Brahmo Samaj — reformist hindu sect founded by Rammohan in 1828 — and some time was its secretary. He was a staunch believer in Vedanta dharma.
