(14 July 1856 – 17 June 1895), eminent social-reform leader of Maharashtra, India, who worked for some time with B.G. Tilak. He was a great intellectual and also an author. Appreciative of the good qualities of British rule, he advocated the constitutional approach as the only means to attain self-rule.
