(1869-1932) of Patna, Bihar (India), knighted in 1910. His political activities commenced around 1908. In the beginning he supported the scheme of separate electorates. But subsequently he became convinced that separate electorates were not only a negation of Indian nationalism but also positively harmful to Muslims themselves.
