Information
(fl. c. 545 BC), Greek philosopher of nature and one of the three thinkers of Miletus traditionally considered to be the first philosophers in the Western world. He taught that the single substance of the universe was air; all other natural elements were produced by rarefication or condensation and were mere degrees of density of the basic substance. The earth was believed by him to be a flat disk floating on air.
