(fl. first half of 7th cent.), court-poet of the Buddhist emperor Harsha (reigned 606-47), famed principally for his chronicle Harshacharita which he wrote c. AD 620. This work is more in the nature of a poem with a historical background than genuine history. Bana’s prose narrative Kadambari is a famous classic of Sanskrit literature.
