If you can stand back from all this [mental commotion] and observe calmly and clearly and precisely, this confusion of voices ought to stop1. It is only a part of the mind that is like that. But you get absorbed by this part and then it looks as if it were the whole mind that is confused. If you stand back from it and observe it with your real mind, then this small part will lose its power to confuse.
