Devaśravas Yāmāyana and Devavāta Yāmāyana; sons of Bharata

Sukta 23

3.23.1

निर्म॑थितः॒ सुधि॑त॒ आ स॒धस्थे॒ युवा॑ क॒विर॑ध्व॒रस्य॑ प्रणे॒ता ।

जूर्य॑त्स्व॒ग्निर॒जरो॒ वने॒ष्वत्रा॑ दधे अ॒मृतं॑ जा॒तवे॑दाः ॥

níḥ-mathitaḥ sú-dhitaḥ ā́ sadhá-sthe yúvā kavíḥ adhvarásya pra-netā́ ǀ

jū́ryat-su agníḥ ajáraḥ váneṣu átra dadhe amṛ́tam jātá-vedāḥ ǁ

Churned out and well-established in the house of his session, the Youth, the Seer, the leader of the pilgrim-sacrifice, imperishable in the perishing woodlands, the Fire, the knower of all things born, has founded here immortality.

3.23.2

अमं॑थिष्टां॒ भार॑ता रे॒वद॒ग्निं दे॒वश्र॑वा दे॒ववा॑तः सु॒दक्षं॑ ।

अग्ने॒ वि प॑श्य बृह॒ताभि रा॒येषां नो॑ ने॒ता भ॑वता॒दनु॒ द्यून् ॥

ámanthiṣṭām bhā́ratā revát agním devá-śravāḥ devá-vātaḥ su-dákṣam ǀ

ágne ví paśya bṛhatā́ abhí rāyā́ iṣā́m naḥ netā́ bhavatāt ánu dyū́n ǁ

The sons of the Bringer, god-inspired and god-beloved, have churned out Fire of the perfect discernment. O Fire, look widely on us with the vast riches, become the leader of our impulsions throughout the days.

3.23.3

दश॒ क्षिपः॑ पू॒र्व्यं सी॑मजीजन॒न्त्सुजा॑तं मा॒तृषु॑ प्रि॒यं ।

अ॒ग्निं स्तु॑हि दैववा॒तं दे॑वश्रवो॒ यो जना॑ना॒मस॑द्व॒शी ॥

dáśa kṣípaḥ pūrvyám sīm ajījanan sú-jātam mātṛ́ṣu priyám ǀ

agním stuhi daiva-vātám deva-śravaḥ yáḥ jánānām ásat vaśī́ ǁ

The ten who throw the Light have brought to birth all around the Ancient One well-born in his mothers and well-beloved. Affirm with lauds, O god-inspired, the Fire lit by the god-beloved, that he may be the controller of men.

3.23.4

नि त्वा॑ दधे॒ वर॒ आ पृ॑थि॒व्या इळा॑यास्प॒दे सु॑दिन॒त्वे अह्नां॑ ।

दृ॒षद्व॑त्यां॒ मानु॑ष आप॒यायां॒ सर॑स्वत्यां रे॒वद॑ग्ने दिदीहि ॥

ní tvā dadhe váre ā́ pṛthivyā́ḥ íḷāyāḥ padé sudina-tvé áhnām ǀ

dṛṣát-vatyām mā́nuṣe āpayā́yām sárasvatyām revát agne didīhi ǁ

One has set thee in the supreme seat of the earth, in the seat of the Word of Revelation, in the happy brightness of the days: O Fire, opulently shine in the human being, in the river of rocks, in the stream of flowing waters, in the stream of inspiration1.

3.23.5

इळा॑मग्ने पुरु॒दंसं॑ स॒निं गोः श॑श्वत्त॒मं हव॑मानाय साध ।

स्यान्नः॑ सू॒नुस्तन॑यो वि॒जावाग्ने॒ सा ते॑ सुम॒तिर्भू॑त्व॒स्मे ॥

íḷām agne puru-dáṃsam saním góḥ śaśvat-tamám hávamānāya sādha ǀ

syā́t naḥ sūnúḥ tánayaḥ vijā́-vā agne sā́ te su-matíḥ bhūtu asmé␣íti ǁ

O Fire, achieve at my call the Revealing Speech the many-actioned, the lasting conquest of the Light. May there be for us a Son of our begetting pervading in his birth2; O Fire, may there be created in us that true thinking of thine.
