Agni Pāvaka

Sukta 140

10.140.1

अग्ने॒ तव॒ श्रवो॒ वयो॒ महि॑ भ्राजंते अ॒र्चयो॑ विभावसो ।

बृह॑द्भानो॒ शव॑सा॒ वाज॑मु॒क्थ्यं१่ दधा॑सि दा॒शुषे॑ कवे ॥

ágne táva śrávaḥ váyaḥ máhi bhrājante arcáyaḥ vibhāvaso␣íti␣vibhā-vaso ǀ

bṛ́hadbhāno␣íti␣bṛ́hat-bhāno śávasā vā́jam ukthyám dádhāsi dāśúṣe kave ǁ

O Fire, thy inspiration and thy growth and thy lights blaze in their greatness, O thou who shinest out with thy lustres; O great luminousness, O seer, thou foundest by thy strength for the giver a plenitude of utterance.

10.140.2

पा॒व॒कव॑र्चाः शु॒क्रव॑र्चा॒ अनू॑नवर्चा॒ उदि॑यर्षि भा॒नुना॑ ।

पु॒त्रो मा॒तरा॑ वि॒चर॒न्नुपा॑वसि पृ॒णक्षि॒ रोद॑सी उ॒भे ॥

pāvaká-varcāḥ śukrá-varcāḥ ánūna-varcāḥ út iyarṣi bhānúnā ǀ

putráḥ mātárā vi-cáran úpa avasi pṛṇákṣi ródasī␣íti ubhé␣íti ǁ

Purifying is thy flaming energy, bright is thy energy, indeficient is thy energy as thou ascendest with thy light — a son thou rangest and protectest the Parents and thou joinest together earth and heaven.

10.140.3

ऊर्जो॑ नपाज्जातवेदः सुश॒स्तिभि॒र्मंद॑स्व धी॒तिभि॑र्हि॒तः ।

त्वे इषः॒ सं द॑धु॒र्भूरि॑वर्पसश्चि॒त्रोत॑यो वा॒मजा॑ताः ॥

ū́rjaḥ napāt jāta-vedaḥ suśastí-bhiḥ mándasva dhītí-bhiḥ hitáḥ ǀ

tvé␣íti íṣaḥ sám dadhuḥ bhū́ri-varpasaḥ citrá-ūtayaḥ vāmá-jātāḥ ǁ

O son of energy, O knower of all things born, well-founded rejoice in our perfect utterances and our thinkings; in thee they have joined together impelling forces of many forms, richly varied in their prospering, born to charm and beauty.

10.140.4

इ॒र॒ज्यन्न॑ग्ने प्रथयस्व जं॒तुभि॑र॒स्मे रायो॑ अमर्त्य ।

स द॑र्श॒तस्य॒ वपु॑षो॒ वि रा॑जसि पृ॒णक्षि॑ सान॒सिं क्रतुं॑ ॥

irajyán agne prathayasva jantú-bhiḥ asmé␣íti rā́yaḥ amartya ǀ

sáḥ darśatásya vápuṣaḥ ví rājasi pṛṇákṣi sānasím krátum ǁ

O immortal Fire, ruling over creatures born, spread in us thy Riches; thou art master of1 thy body of vision and thou satest thy conquering will.

10.140.5

इ॒ष्क॒र्तार॑मध्व॒रस्य॒ प्रचे॑तसं॒ क्षयं॑तं॒ राध॑सो म॒हः ।

रा॒तिं वा॒मस्य॑ सु॒भगां॑ म॒हीमिषं॒ दधा॑सि सान॒सिं र॒यिं ॥

iṣkartā́ram adhvarásya prá-cetasam kṣáyantam rā́dhasaḥ maháḥ ǀ

rātím vāmásya su-bhágām mahī́m íṣam dádhāsi sānasím rayím ǁ

A thinker, an arranger of sacrifice, a master of great achievement thou foundest a bounty of delight and a great and fortunate impulsion and conquering Riches.

10.140.6

ऋ॒तावा॑नं महि॒षं वि॒श्वद॑र्शतम॒ग्निं सु॒म्नाय॑ दधिरे पु॒रो जनाः॑ ।

श्रुत्क॑र्णं स॒प्रथ॑स्तमं त्वा गि॒रा दैव्यं॒ मानु॑षा यु॒गा ॥

ṛtá-vānam mahiṣám viśvá-darśatam agním sumnā́ya dadhire puráḥ jánāḥ ǀ

śrút-karṇam sapráthaḥ-tamam tvā girā́ dáivyam mā́nuṣā yugā́ ǁ

Men have set in front this great Truth-possessing and all-seeing Fire for the bliss; thee who hast the ear that hears our words voice, wide-extended, one divine throughout the human generations.
