1. Sarasvati, Goddess of intuitive perception of the Truth, by which she makes us aware of Great stream, upper Ocean, purifying and illuminating our thoughts, awakening to the true thoughts, rich in thoughts, she makes them abundant, she carries bliss (Mayas), rapture, all desired things, all riches. O most Mother, O most River, O most divine, O Sarasvati, do make for us expression, 2.41.16, do impel us to hearing of the Truth, 1.188.8.
2. Sarasvati – divine river, one of seven Vedic rivers, it symbolises supramental mode of consciousness-existence and flows through all three regions of Manifestation. The figure for it was the river of North of India, that is a part of seven rivers, while five rivers from them, pañcanada, stands for human modes of consciousness – (1) river vipāś, “that freed the bound one”, symbolises direct vision, dṛṣṭi, it inflow into river (2) śutudrī, “of hundreds flows”, that symbolises direct hearing of the Truth, śruti. Both these rivers are two perceptive overmental abilities. (3) River paruṣa, “dapple”, having bright and dark spots, is a mental consciousness. (4) asiknī, black, – is physical consciousness. (5) vitastā, “violent”, “hurling in all directions”, – vital consciousness. River paruṣa, mind, and vitastā, vital, inflow into asiknī, matter, while vipāś and śutudrī, overmental perceptions inflow into (about 3000 years ago) into river Sarasvati, supramental consciousness, that inflowed into Sindhu (Indu), Great Stream (upper Ocean), that Sarasvati makes us aware through intuitive perception, 1.3.12.
