of Rig Veda

aṅgiras, Angiras

The flaming one. The word is derived from agni. It means either god or man who has a flaming (i.e. purposeful) and bright (i.e. knowing) will. It is used either as an epithet of Agni himself, or as an epithet or the name of the seers having this quality of Agni. Agni is the “first Angiras”, expressing the divine fiery tejas and tapas, the Energy of Consciousness, the Will carrying out its work in all the worlds manifested.
