The word is often found in the same context as the Maruts and the Ashwins and is clearly associated not with just radiance, but with the dynamic Light of consciousness, revealing, illuminating, showing the Truth. Cf. related words śubhra, śubhri, śumbhamāna, verb śubh. Thus, the word is close to the action of Dawn.
