of Rig Veda

śam, glad peace

The word expresses on the one hand calmness, rest, equanimity, quietude, peace and on the other hand – happiness and joy, thus it is that state of bright and lasting peace full with happiness, which is the base on which the Bliss can stand (See The Secret of the Veda // CWSA.– Vol. 15.– 1998, p. 420). From here comes a derived connotation expressed by such words and phrases as benevolent, auspicious, beneficial, benignant, bearing happiness, etc.
