rudra, Rudra

Rudra is god of Force of the Truth-Light. So his action and characteristics often are akin to action and characteristics of Indra, but with especial accent on the Force: most strong from strong ones, 2.33.3, the bull, he intoxicated me with forming force, 2.33.6, well shining, 3.2.5, blazing, 1.114.4, bringing hearing of the Truth, 2.33.11, 2.33.3, with lightening in his hand, 2.33.3, Master of songs-offerings, 1.43.4, we choose his right-thinking, 1.114.4, Asura, mighty Lord with bow and arrows, 5.42.11, goddess of speech draws his bow to kill hater of wisdom-word, 10.125.6, Lord and Hero, whose hairs are knotted like the cowrie shell, 1.114.1, mighty, 2.33.11, with firm limbs, golden and clean, mighty Courser having many forms, 2.33.9, strong-jawed Steed, 2.33.5, killing like awful lion, 2.33.11, killing strong ones, 4.3.6, sitting on the seat of a war-chariot, 2.33.11, powerful, he owns all power, there is not anybody more strong, O Rudra, then thee, 2.33.10.

Do cast far from us divine wrath, we choose thy right-thinking, 1.114.4, do not kill our great and our little, 1.114.7, do not harm, 1.114.8, let thy benevolence come, be, O hero on horse, patient to us, 2.33.1, having a merciful nature, quickly responding, 2.33.5.

Benevolence of Rudra’s action and force is often similar to action of Ashvins, riders on horses, i.e. on divine forces: young, 2.33.11, 5.60.5, mighty, vast, not subject to age, very benevolent, 6.49.10, thy, O Rudra, mighty hand of the god is healing, appeasing, carrying out from evil, 2.33.7, thou art most curing from healers, 2.33.4, hymned, thou bestowest healings to us, 2.33.12, with thy most gracious healings let me enjoy hundred winters, do repel away from us all enmity, away evil, away calamities, 2.33.2, let me reach unhurt, as if in heat shady place, the bliss of Rudra, 2.33.6, we desire the happiness from him possessing healings, 1.43.4, O gracious to us Rudra, do make the Bliss (Mayas, Ananda) for us, 1.114.2.

Accomplishing aim of offerings, of works, 3.2.5, carrying us over toward other shore from evil, 2.33.3, accomplishing offering, 1.114.4, seer, 1.114.4, accompanied by the Maruts (passim), farther of the Maruts, 2.33.1, he, Rudra-Bull, brought to birth the Maruts in bright udder of Prishni, 2.34.2, the Rudras, strong Asuras, purifying, clean, like sun, flowing thickly warriors with frightful appearance, 1.64.2, destroying the enemies, 1.39.4, great workers, bright in knowledges, 1.85.1.
