sasa, bliss

The exact meaning of the word is unknown. Sri Aurobindo in early translations used the meaning "the bliss," in later: peace, sleep. Traditional interpretation: food, grains, grass; Yaska: sleep. Values peace, sleep, food, etc., are not apropriate in most passages, sole relevant meaning is the bliss: Indra with bliss brought wealth for Vimada (1.51.3); bliss skin (3.5.6; 4.5.7); udder of bliss (4.7.7); Agni sits in the womb of Truth, in the womb of Bliss (5.21.4); they grab bliss with tongues of Agni (8.72.3).
