Sri Aurobindo in all his texts from the 1913 to the 1940s translates this word as “upper,” while most interpreters as “lower.” When analyzing those riks (see, for example, 1.62.6) in which this word is used, the correctness of the interpretation of Sri Aurobindo becomes obvious.
