1. Figure symbolizing thought, at first as a seed, then growth, then a large tree that rising from Earth towards Heaven, widening in hundreds branches, full of sap of the Bliss and of aspiration. All beings with beautiful wings (i.e. soaring souls) eating sweetness seat upon that tree and bring to the birth above; verily his sweet fruit is on the top, he who has not knew Father will not reach that fruit on the top, 1.164.22. King Varuna having clear discernment holds in bottomlessness high top of the tree. Its trunks stand below; their root is above – let intuitive perceptions be placed within us, 1.24.7.
The piece of wood full of bliss has born the child of Waters and plants (i.e. Agni), 3.1.13. Agni not subject to old age was kindled by friction in becoming old ones, in trees he established immortality, 3.23.1. Agni is a child of waters and child of forests, 1.70.3; Agni consumes, 1.65.7, and subdues forests, 1.143.5, becoming their conqueror, 1.67.1, and Master – wind-driven easily many-noised he spreads among trunks by tongues of flames-sickles, when quickly, O Agni, thou becomest the bull of the forest, 1.58.4, the pure Agni going crookedly within forests, 1.180.3, he illumes forests, 2.4.6; Agni has established utterance in cows (supramental perceptions), in forests, 1.70.9.
Undecayed radiances-trees cleave to Indra, 3.40.7. O Indra, do bring to us force, wealth like share in knowledge, like ripe fruit from the tree, 3.45.4. Indra made to roar rivers, to sound forests, 1.54.1, he throws down forests upon head of hissing Shushna, 1.54.5, he found cows, horses, plants, waters, forests, 1.103.5; O Indra, do make to bow thought that ignores thee of everyone as if by very hot arani, 1.129.5, Indra like carpenter a tree hews down forests of life, 1.130.4.
Thought-powers become high like forests for you, O Maruts, you cause stone (mind) to move, 1.88.3; you go through forests of earth, through regions of mountains, 1.39.3; shake mountains, uproot trees, when you journey forward, 1.39.5, devour the woods, when yoke strengths to the ruddy mares, 1.64.7.
2. Vanaspati – Master of tree-thought. This epithet may used with any god, who is master of thought of man. O Vanaspati, having hundred branches, do grow to all sides, let us having thousand branches grow in all sides, such thee this axe (that carves the thought) becoming sharp has directed forward for the great bliss, 3.8.11. Let Lord of the forest be for us honeyed, the Sun honeyed, let the cows be for us honeyed, 1.90.8. Thou, O Soma, O Vanaspati who has delight in praise, 1.91.6.
Do rise upward, O Vanaspati, into height of the Earth above, with good establishment well established thou hast established illumination for bearing offering, 3.8.3. Do release by thyself, O Vanaspati, path for the gods, 1.188.10. Let thy steeds that bear offerings, by which thou goest, fill themselves with clarity, do drink Soma in due time of the Truth, 2.37.3. O Vanaspati, O god, do release the offering for the gods; let awakening of consciousness] be for the giver, 1.13.11. Let not Vanaspati abandon us and let not him harm us, let him safely deliver us at home, at repose, at unyoke (i.e. at the world of the Bliss, Mayas), 3.53.20.
