turīya, fourth

It seems that the meaning of the word in many riks is associated with four levels of consciousness where the poet receives, stores and offers soma, ecstasy, strength and knowledge of the offering-hymn. The first cup made by Twashtri was wooden, that is, the mental consciousness of Rishi (the tree is a symbol of thought rising from Earth to Heaven). Probably four bowls are physical, vital, mental and overmental consciousness of Rishi.
