vipāś, Vipash

Sanskrit name of the river (now Beas River), lit. “that freed the bound one”, most likely, it symbolises the direct vision, dṛṣṭi; it is a part of the Indian Panchanada (the Persian name of the territory is Penjab) and of the sapta sindhu, of Seven Rivers; it merges with the Shutudri River, śutudrī, “of hundreds flows”, that apparently symbolises the direct hearing of the Truth, śruti. Both of these rivers represent overmental perceptive abilities.
