Sanskrit name of the river (now Jhelum River), lit. “violent”, “hurling in all directions”, perhaps, it symbolises the vital consciousness; it is a part of the Indian Panchanada (the Persian name of the territory is Penjab) and of the sapta sindhu, of Seven Rivers.
