Родился в Париже, детство и юность провел в Бретони. Во время Второй мировой войны был участником Сопротивления. В конце 1943 арестован гестапо. Полтора года провел в лагерях смерти.
После войны работал в колониальной администрации Пондичерри. Посетил один даршан в ашраме. Затем путешествовал по Гвиане, Бразилии, Африке. Все это время возил с собой “Жизнь Божественную” Шри Ауробиндо.
В 1953 вернулся в Пондичерри и стал членом ашрама. Преподавал в школе, отвечал за французскую часть журнала “Бюллетень физического образования”. 3 марта 1957 Мать дала ему имя “Сатпрем”, (“тот, кто истинно любит”).
Затем снова пускается в путешествия: Конго, Бразилия, Афганистан, Гималаи, Новая Зеландия, плывет под парусом вокруг света.
В 1957 становится учеником танрика, жреца в Рамешвараме. Затем становится учеником йогина и путешествует пол года по всей Индии как нищий саньяси, что легло в основу его второго романа “Par le Corps de la Terre, ou le Sanyassin” (“Телом земли, или Саньяси”).
В 1960 возвращается снова в Пондичерри, по его словам — “птица прилетает снова назад”. Мать приглашает его время от времени, первоначально для работы над Бюллетенем. Постепенно он начинает задавать все больше вопросов и наконец решает вести записи их бесед, беря с собой магнитофон. Результатом стала “Агенда Матери”, первый том которой перекрывает период с 1951 по 1960 и включает письма Сатпрема к Матери.
Под руководством Матери он пишет “Sri Aurobindo, ou l’Aventure de la Conscience” (“Шри Ауробиндо, или Путешествие сознания”), книгу, опубликованную в 1964, которая стала самым популярным введением к работам Шри Ауробиндо и Матери. Также под руководством Матери он пишет в 1972 и 1973 годах эссе “La Genèse du Surhomme” (“На пути к Сверхчеловечеству”), Мать высоко оценила эту книгу. В 1978 году, в год столетия Матери, попечители ашрама, так называемые “trustees”, исключили Сатпрема из ашрама. Причиной конфликта стало стремление Сатпрема опубликовать “Агенду Матери” без купюр и искажений текста. Сатпрем описал этот период в его “Notebooks of an Apocalypse” (“Записках Апокалипсиса”). Вся переписка между Сатпремом и Матерью за период между 1962 и 1973 была конфискована, он уезжает из Пондичерри, тайно увозя с собой магнитофонные записи бесед “Агенды”, в Харвуд, Нилгири. Здесь он живет с Суджатой и редактирует 13 томов “Агенды”. Одновременно, на основе материалов “Агенды” он пишет трилогию “Mère” (“Мать”).
В 1982 все 13 томов “Агенды” на французском языке опубликованы в Париже Институтом эволюционных исследований (Institut de Recherches Évolutives).
Сатпрем чувствует, что выполнил свою главную внешнюю работу. На следующий год он и Суджата отходят от публичной жизни, чтобы заняться более интенсивной садханой.
В 1985 году выходит книга “La Vie sans Mort” (“Жизнь без смерти”) и “Разум клеток”.
В 1989 Сатпрем пишет краткий автобиографический очерк “The Revolt of the Earth”.

В 2008 (уже после смерти Сатпрема) выходит его последняя книга “L’Oiseau Doel”.
